my birth story

Well, Here it is.. my birth story. Yes, a little gross, but if you've already had a baby, then you know what its like! Hey, and I'm only about 3 months late in posting it!

Friday, March 9th, I woke up feeling like crap and just was miserable (did a lot of whining on my birth board too). No pain, just didn't feel well. After going to the grocery store, which I told DH we "HAD" to do that day, came home and we just relaxed. John was feeling really bad for me and he took me to PF Changs to pick up some chinese food (I wasn't going to be seen in public), and I even got a foot massage! Mind you, had BH all day, but nothing painful or unusual. At 6:30 I felt a sharp pain (not even that bad, looking back) shoot across my lower back. 1/2 hour later, had another one. This lasted with varying times, until around 11pm then seemed to stop. I went to bed in the nursery (the bed is lower) and at around 1:00/1:15 woke up to a really bad back pain. I went to the bathroom and wiped blood. So I called the OB since the pains were around 16 minutes apart. He said that that was normal, and when they hit 5 minutes for an hour to come on in. At 3am, I wiped even more, but cxs, weren't close at all So, I was up all night (while DH snored away). Then tried to sleep again at around 6am. 7:30 am, another huge contraction hit, and it was the worst pain shooting across my back. DH started timing them for me, and he called out of work. At 9:30 we went to the hospital, and we got behind someone driving about 10 mph all the way to the hospital. What should have taken 8 minutes, took almost 15 minutes. Thank goodness they didn’t pull into the hospital! At least Saturday mornings are great for parking! We went in, they hooked me up to the monitors and I was at 2cm, and 50% effaced. Dr. Seeney (not mine, but she was awesome) told us to walk around the floor, and then she cheked me again. I was at a "loose" 2. She basically said that she could let me go home, but knew I'd be back, and since I was well over my due date, she could give me pitocin. We stayed. In the meantime, I was having horrible back labor and at 11:30, I was crying through every contraction. John actually called the nurse in the middle of one and told them to bring me the epidural. By noon, I was hooked up. That was the best I had ever felt too! Everything was progressing nicely. My blood pressure was up, but the pre-eclampsia tests came back at the same levels as before I went into labour, and I was nauseated from the epidural. They broke my water at around 2pm.
By 5pm, I was at a 7/8 cm dilated!! Both the nurse and doctor said I'd probably have her by 7 or 8 that night! Well, at 6pm, I hit 9cm... and stayed. I was checked every hour, and they even had to add a new bottle of the epi. At 10:25pm, the doctor came in and told us that there was no progressing at all, and even with the practice pushing I was doing, there was no change. I was prepped for a C/S and at 10:45 was on the table. dh was a rock for me. I don't know how I would have gotten through it without him. I remember them telling me that I was going to feel the pulling that they told me about.. DH was told that the baby was about to be born. (he made the mistake of taking a peek). Next thing, I hear the little screams! at 11:00pm Emma came into the world. 8lbs, 2oz. 19 1/2 inches long and her apgars were 7 and 9. Her temp was down and had to be warmed up for an hour before we could see her.

I got really sick while on the table, and I thought I was going to throw up, but they gave me something. I then passed out. John stayed with me the entire time. He only left me after I got into my room, then he brought her into me.

What a night. I was released on the 13th, and my BP was still up, a little worse than it was. All in all, I do it all over again! we're so in love with our little girl!
